Cranberry … a potent fruit

The cranberry is an evergreen prostrate shrub that spreads by trailing along the ground with procumbent branches. This shrub, found in the north-eastern states of America and Canada, belongs to the Ericaceae family. The ripe berries or juice concentrate could be used for the extraction. As with most red berries, the cranberry has a high content of anthocyanins and proanthocyanins. Cranberries are a popular ingredient in foods and nutritional supplements. This is based on multiple studies, which have shown that consuming these berries helps to prevent urinary tract infections.
