Sage ... potent leaves
Salvia officinalis is found naturally throughout the entire Mediterranean region, particularly in northern and central Spain, southern France and in the west of the Balkan Peninsula. The subshrub belongs to the Lamiaceae family. A particular characteristic of sage is the smell of the leaves, which are grey-green in colour and have fine hair like felt on the underside. The drug is traditionally used with inflammation of the mucous membrane in the oral cavity/throat area and the dry irritating cough associated with it.
